Substance over Style
When people see the Night Heron kayak, they think “Wow, that is a beautiful kayak!” But, that isn’t the point of the design. Nick loves kayaking. Cutting across a wide bay in Maine to get intimate with the rocky shoreline is the best feeling in the world. The Night Heron is designed to be fast and efficient, to make that crossing quickly and easily. When you get close to the rocks, the kayak is quick and responsive, allowing you to explore in close.
I am honored that the Night Heron pictured here is was recognized for its design by the Museum of Modern Art in NYC where it is in the permanent collection, but I don’t know that the curators really understand what makes it such a fantastic design. You really can’t understand until you put it in the water.
Night Heron Kayak Showcase
Drawing on the lines of the original Inuit kayak builders, the Night Heron is a efficient and responsive sea kayak suitable for long distance touring and playing in rough water. The graceful elegant lines cut through the water in style.
