Petrel – Matched Western Red Cedar – Carbon Kevlar, Fiberglass & Epoxy
Dance on the water
with this responsive and fun sea kayak
The name “petrel” is a diminutive form of “Peter”, a reference to Saint Peter; it was given to the sea birds because they sometimes appear to walk across the water’s surface. Like its namesake bird, the Petrel kayak dances on the water.
Directly inspired by the hunting kayaks of the Greenland Inuits, this kayak is optimized for secure and responsive play in rough water. While happy to explore a secluded backwater, the design really comes to life when the water gets textured.
Petrel Kayak Showcase
The Petrel is one of Nick’s favorite boats to paddle. Its great responsiveness and secure feel in rough conditions allow the paddler to become one with the boat and just interact directly with the water.
Each Kayak is Handmade for You
Watch this short video about how Nick makes his kayaks. Each boat requires hundreds of hours of work, fitting piece of wood, sanding and fairing the surface, applying perfectly transparent fiberglass cloth and epoxy. More sanding. Varnish. More sanding…
